Representatives of EMF affiliates with membership in Delphi, representatives of the
Delphi European Works Council, representatives of the European Metalworkers’
Federation and the International Metalworkers’ Federation met in Brussels, under the
umbrella of the EMF.
This was the second meeting of the EMF Delphi Group, which has been set up by the EMF
following Delphi management’s announcement of its worldwide restructuring plans aimed
at streamlining production to core businesses and core products.
The meeting discussed both Delphi’s situation in the USA, and the impact of its
restructuring on European plants, and the situation in Delphi’s European plants as
regards restructuring, plant closures and job losses.
The EMF affiliates and EWC members recognized the importance of close co-operation
between all the employee representatives and the trade unions concerned in order to
monitor and respond to developments. “The EMF will do everything to ensure that there
will be no cases of any one plant being played off against another and that the trade
unions face future developments in solidarity in the future restructuring process at
Delphi,” said Peter Scherrer, the General Secretary of the European Metalworkers’
Federation.
The EMF Delphi Group has established a series of measures to ensure a full, fast-track
procedure regarding the exchange of information.
