A choice is possible
During the last few years Federal Mogul has drastically reduced the number of employees in Europe and closed a good number of their sites.
During this time, the representatives of the employees in the European Forum asked the management to respect the established process of information and consultation.
The employee representatives have to be well informed about the problems and circumstances they will be confronted with at their sites and have answers for the problems and difficulties we are faced with in our plants.
The latest example announcing the closure from Desenzano site shows us just how bad are the methods used by Federal Mogul in some countries.
This is not acceptable, especially just when we want to sign a new agreement affecting the European Forum. Acting like this is in contradiction to the statement made by the management of Federal Mogul.
That is the reason why the employee representatives on our European Forum, who held a meeting in Turin from 29th September to 1st October 2009, gave their full support to the employees from Desenzano: for their fight for employment, for their fight for their plant and their demands on management:
to suspend the plans to close the Desenzano facility;
to hold a round of negotiations between the mangement and the representatives from Federal Mogul instead; to find well-thought out responses to the challenge to protect employment and production.
The employees from Desenzano and their representatives have industrial and social proposals to present.
Management should listen to what they have to say and examine the proposal very objectively, as is their duty in this critical situation.
The representatives of the employees appeal to all Federal Mogul employees in Europe to show their solidarity with the employees of Desenzano.
Together we can force management to make another choice, it is up to us.
Solidarity and cooperation are the two watchwords for the activities of the European employees of Federal Mogul.
Together to protect our plants and to protect our jobs - That is the only perspective we have. Together we say “No“ to the dismantling of the wellfare state organized by the management and “No“ to the movement towards this licentious profit which is always to somebody else’s benefit and to the disadvantage of the employees.
