Representatives on EWCs argued that the information and consultation rights in the European Works Council Directive are too weak. Management hardly informs in good time and does not seek the opinion of the EWC before decisions are taken. This needs to be strengthened and the revision of the EWC directive is long overdue. The workers’ representatives of some companies complained bitterly about facilities. Some EWCs only meet once a year, such as the Compass EWC.
The EPSU Deputy General Secretary presented the work of the EPSU European Works Council Coordinators Network. Unison organised the meeting to inform and discuss recent EWC development with its trade union officers and representatives, 27 January 2005, London
