The Steering Committee of the European Consultative Committee (EWC) of Suez meeting today (4/9) and after having noted the announcement of the new project to merger GdF and Suez:
• Is opposed to the principle of the dismantlement of the Group and as such to the project to disinvest 65% of the capital of branch Environment. The EWC is absolutely not reassured by the announcement of a pact of the large shareholders of which the real content and the rules which will govern it are not known to the EWC.
• Deplores that it has received almost all information on the project through the media.
• As representative of the 153.000 European workers, demands that the European Consultative Committee will be consulted before concrete decisions are taken on the detailed project and on the basis of complete and comprehensive information, on the same basis as the works councils of the Holdings which do no represent more then a few hundred persons.
The EWC notes that placing the branch Environment on the market will lead to new risks for the 82.000 workers concerned and that the nature of the shareholders pact is not such that it will give workers a role in the governance of their company.
