Suez announced the take-over of Belgian electricity company Electrabel in August. The implications of this merger were at the focus of discussion and especially the prospect of the creation of a European Company for Suez. This will be discussed further at the plenary meeting of the EWC (19 October). Other issues considered: * Equality and Diversity; * Training; * Suez Energy Services (companies such as Fabricom, GTI, were job losses are foreseen); * Health and Safety - the number of workers killed in work-related accidents has increased compared to last year. Many of these accidents concerned workers involved in sub-contracting; * Proposals of management to centralise different services (back-office) in regional and national service centres having grave employment consequences and possibly with the perspective to out-source; * Future of the energy commission (also called EWC of Tractebel) in relation to Suez Energy Services. In the same section * EWC Suez discusses employment and long-term investment * Suez Bureau meets: merger and implementation of agreements on the agenda * Gas de France Suez merger - GdF unions given negative opinion * Suez and trade unions finalise agreement on social guarantees in case of merger * Suez union groups discusses merger, social guaranties, profit-sharing... * Consultation on agreement with Suez concerning the social protection in case of the merger with Gaz de France * Suez EWC expresses its opinion on the merger with Gaz de France * Extra-ordinary meeting of the EWC of SUEZ
