After scandalous delays, the European Commission has finally published its consultation document on the revision of the EWC Directive. It argues that the European Social Partners are in the best position to negotiate a solution.
While ETUC has been in favour of a negotiated solution, BusinessEurope has been against. Just after the publication of the Communication BusinessEurope said: we see no need at all to revise the European Works Council directive. EWCs are complex entities. New legislation will not help their functioning.
EPSU’s EWC Coordinators are concerned that the employers will enter into negotiations with no intention to reach an agreement to delay the revision and frustrate the proven need to improve the information and consultation rights of workers especially in the case of restructuring and mergers and acquisitions.
