The Swedish state owned company Vattenfall held a CSR seminar, 13 October in Brussels. The seminar was at the occasion of the publication of its CSR report. Climate Action Network, WWF, Community View Finders, EPSU and Richard Howitt of the EP participated. While the work of Vattenfall to commit to a CSR strategy was welcomed, each participant criticised the company for not being sufficiently transparent regarding the stakeholders consulted. Richard Howitt supported the position of EPSU that the EWC and trade unions should have been consulted. He made the point: “What interests me is not the first report, but year 2,3,4 and 5”. Vattenfall operates in Sweden, Finland, Poland and Germany. It aims to acquire a Danish company. It is currently negotiating a collective agreement for Vattenfall Germany and has argued it will leave the employers organisation (to undermine the collective agreement) and has proposed individual contracts instead of a collective agreement. EPSU’s deputy general secretary participated in the seminar.
