BNP Paris has bought Fortis Bank in 2009. It was therefore necessary to review the
functioning of its EWC in order to ingrate the workers representatives of Fortis. After
several months of negotiations, the management of the French banking group has
signed an agreement which increases the powers and resources of the EWC. With the
integration of Fortis, the number of EWC members increases from 32 to 49. Now, the
EWC will meet twice a year instead of once. The agreement also sets up an office to
ensure a regular exchange of information between the management and EWC
members. However, workers’ representatives have no consultation right.
