On November 21, Fiat terminated all collective agreements and "any commitment resulting from the collective agreements" in force in its Italian undertakings, starting on January 1, 2012. This was the obvious next step for the company after leaving the Confindustria employers' organization. Now, management and unions have a little more than a month to sign a collective agreement for the people working for the carmaker which, with this withdrawal, is hoping to have elbow room to negotiate flexible working organization.
