On Tuesday, January 24, the Verdi and IG BCE unions signed a collective agreement with the management of the EON power company. Valid until 2016, this agreement determines the modalities for the social plan which should lead to the removal of 6,000 jobs in Germany. On the menu: allowances for voluntary departures, extension of early retirement and creation of a retraining and reclassification company for the employees concerned. In doing so, EON is hoping to save EUR 1.5 billion annually, and the restructuring program should cost, in total, an estimate of 1 billion. (Ref. 120058)
