While the German apprenticeship system has an unparalleled reputation both in Germany and abroad, a study by researchers from three prestigious universities in Germany, the US and China pointed to the shortcomings, until then little known, of work-study training. Thus, while it helps apprentices access the labor market easily, it reduces their professional prospects with age. The researchers are calling for a reform of the apprenticeship system. (Ref. 120088)
