BWI signs new International Framework Agreement with Spanish International Construction company FCC, together with Spanish Trade Union affiliates FECOMA-CC.OO and MCA-UGT, represented by General Secretaries Fernando Serrano and Teodoro Escorial.
The purpose of International Framework Agreements (IFAs) is to assist Trade Unions affiliated to the Building and Woodworkers International and to promote respect for human and trade union rights. This framework agreement constitutes a formal recognition of social partnership at the global level. It provides a global framework for protecting trade union rights and encouraging social dialogue and collective bargaining, with a view to maintaining good working conditions and industrial relations.
Ambet Yuson, BWI General Secretary, speaking at the signing ceremony at FCC headquarters, said: “We know that FCC takes seriously its social responsibility towards its employees, recognising the goal of guaranteeing good working conditions - and both parties wish to document that positive goal in this Agreement. Promotion of compliance with internationally recognised human and Trade Union rights on the basis of ILO core labour standards are a central principle in FCC’s corporate policy.
This partnership with the global Trade Union movement in the construction sector will provide an important mechanism to demonstrate and to implement our joint commitment to those principles.”
In the opinion of FECOMA-CC.OO and MCA-UGT, ”We trust that this agreement will set an example that will be followed by the other major construction companies operating outside of Spain.”
