EMF affiliates FI CC.00 and MCA-UGT in Spain and FIM-CISL, FIOM-CGIL and UILM in Italy are also using today’s European Trade Union Action Day to mobilise on ArcelorMittal . The Italian and Spanish unions are calling for government and political intervention in favour of a coordinated and coherent industrial strategy to maintain the steel sector at national and European level. They are highlighting the current behaviour and strategy of ArcelorMittal and call on management to provide guarantees to safeguard production and jobs at sites in their respective countries. The unions confirm their readiness to take further action.
News from French unions on their mobilisation against ArcelorMittal:
French metalworking unions (CGT, CFE-CGC, FO and CFDT) are vehemently opposed to the recent decision to close the Florange site. After a mass work stoppage staged last week 16th February at Florange, unions and worker representatives are banding together to plan appropriate counter measures. In a common front, the unions state they will not just sit back and accept the "industrial death" of Florange and are planning a "massive" response.
