After a round of regional negotiation and the end, on April 30, 2012, of the statutory "truce" during which strikes are forbidden, the IG-Metall launched warning strikes in over a hundred businesses. The union is asking for a 6.5 percent wage increase over 12 months as well as permanent contracts for apprentices and a right of scrutiny over appeal to agency workers. Metal employers' organizations propose a 3 percent wage increase and refuse to negotiations the other points. There will be another meeting on May 8 but the conflict should intensify.
