On Friday, Ma 11, 2012, the social partners in the Austrian chemical industry signed an agreement implementing a 4.35 percent wage increase for all, 4.5 percent for minimum wage. The social partners had to meet four times to achieve this result, which concerns 43,000 employees, and this is rather unusual. Unions say this agreement is well deserved and a fair reward for employees' role in the sector's good results in 2011. Employers on the other hand are afraid of a compromise pushing their members to the limit of what they can do. The agreement also contains a measure in favor of equality for women. (Ref. 120313)
