Since the end of 2011, a major dispute has been raging in airports between Verdi and the German police union (DPolG), affiliated with the German Federation of Civil Servants (DBB). Thus, Verdi blames the police union for having an active recruitment policy among the 15,000 airport security agents who work for private security companies traditionally represented by Verdi. The Federation of German Security Employers (BDSW) started collective negotiations with the police union, so Verdi terminated the talks it had started in the spring, threatening to launch a strike movement in September if employers kept on bargaining with the rival union.
