Today, Wednesday, December 5, the European Commission has proposed measures to help the Member States tackle unacceptable levels of youth unemployment and social exclusion. This "Youth Employment Package" notably contains a recommendation to set up Youth Guarantee schemes inviting the States to implement programs ensuring that all under-25s receive a quality job offer, continued education, an apprenticeship or a traineeship within 4 months of leaving formal education or becoming jobless. The European Commission would financially support these schemes. The Package also launches a second-stage consultation of social partners on quality traineeships. (Ref. 120717)
