A few minutes apart and each in their corner, the European social partners – the European Trade Union Confederation on the one hand and BusinessEurope, CEEP (public companies) and UEAPME (SMEs) on the other - published a press release blaming the other for the deadlock in the negotiations on working time. They had until the end of the year to reach an agreement reviewing Directive 2003/88 concerning certain aspects of the organization of working time. After compromising the first attempt at reviewing this directive, the opt-out (possibility of derogating from the maximum 48-hour work week) is once again the main cause of failure. (Ref. 120748)
