On January 1, 2013, a new working time system will be introduced for the 9,000 Austrian mailmen. It came up against major reluctance within the Österreischiche Post AG (ÖPAG). Negotiated in the spring 2012 and signed by the social partners in September, the agreement provides for a new system to calculate and retrieve overtime as well as punctual monitoring of mailmen's work rhythms and routes via GPS tracking. The employee representatives opposed to the idea claim that the management has been threatening mailmen who refuse to accept the new system in writing. They say that the already complex working conditions are going to be even more complicated and that it could even make the "delivery system" collapse. The post's management believes that the individual ambitions of some union members are causing the turmoil. (Ref. 120762)
