On Wednesday, January 16, Transport Minister Doris Bures signed the new "Decree on vocational training and controls in the rail industry." From June 1 on, Austrian rail employees in 22 trades will receive equal training regardless of the company they work in. The regulation on training for train drivers isn't affected but will be adjusted. This new regulation, which has no equal anywhere in Europe, aims to put an end to the negative effects of the liberalization of a sector where the arrival of new private actors and the fact that training remains the responsibility of businesses have led companies to save on training to the detriment of security.
