Today Thursday, at a local WC meeting, the world's largest steel producer announced that it was going to close several cold-processing facilities in Liege as a result "from weak European demand for steel" the company said in a press release. Political reactions expressed concern or anger towards the steel group's management. The Prime Minister, currently in Davos, Switzerland, for the 43rd World Economic Forum (WEF) should meet with ArcelorMittal CEO Lakshmi Mittal this afternoon and express the Belgian government's "inability to understand" this decision which will affect approximately 1,300 workers, i.e. more than half of the metalworkers who were still working.
