On Tuesday, January 29, the Austrian Council of Ministers adopted several key measures in the field of vocational training for employees and jobseekers with little or medium skills. The key measure is the creation of a part-time training leave allowing employees to receive a financial subsidy to follow a training course for 10-20 hours a week for up to 2 years. Employees and jobseekers who agree to train in a sector where the lack for skilled workers has been officially recognized will get a scholarship. Finally, the procedure to get the "red-white-red" card, the Austrian version of the European blue card, will be radically simplified and quickened. All the social partners welcomed this initiative. The Parliament still needs to improve the measures, which could come into force at the end of June 2013. (Ref. 130078)
