After signing, on February 6, a wage agreement with EON, leading energy producer in Germany, the Verdi (services) and IG BCE (chemistry) unions reached another agreement on February 22, this time for the second largest energy producer in Germany, RWE. As with EON, the agreement approved by a large majority of the "Pay Committees" of the two trade unions on Monday, February 25 in Düsseldorf helped avoid an open strike at the last minute. This strike would have been the first at RWE in 100 years. In addition to a wage increase divided in two, the collective agreement provides for the extension, until December 31, 2014, of the agreement preventing economic layoffs. (Ref. 130138)
