During the night of 07/08 November unions secured an agreement with the automaker’s management, unlocking a dispute that has been ongoing for several weeks and avoiding a 24 hr. strike that had been set for 08 November. The parties agreed to raising the number of working days from 218 to 220 and raising pay from 01 January 2017 to 31 March 2017 by 1% across all pay scales with a 0.3% bonus an extra 0.6% spread over the period 01 April 2017 – 31 March 2018 and a one-off 0.5%. Jobs was another focus of the negotiations and this pre-agreement intends for both 70 current temporary workers to transition to permanent employees and for 25 employees laid off in 2009 but who were still working for the company to become direct employees. The text also states it will take full career length into account for every ‘re-employed’ worker, under certain conditions, re-internalizing currently out-sourced powertrain systems handling, in situations of surplus staff, sub-contracting activities will be brought back in-house. The sub-contracting committee, established in 2004, is to be consulted prior to any new outsourcing.
