On 7 December, the management of the American group General Electric announced to the European Works Council representing former employees of Alstom's energy business, a plan to cut 4,500 jobs in Europe in its energy business, GE Power. Switzerland, Germany and the United Kingdom are among the affected European countries. Approximately 1100 jobs will be cut at two production sites in England. In Germany, 1600 positions will be affected, or 16% of the group's workforce in the country. The activities of General Electric in France are still protected by the agreement signed with the State regarding the commitment to create 1000 net jobs by the end of 2018.
