Press release of 31 May 2018 The European Federation of Building and Woodworkers (EFBWW) is surprised and outraged by the communication sent by the LafargeHolcim group (May 25, 2018) of its intention to close its headquarters in France and Switzerland. At the plenary meeting of the European works council in Zürich on 17 May, the European management again denied rumours of such a closure. 8 days later, the group announced the opposite in the media. Sam Hägglund, General Secretary of the EFBWW, said: "This decision confirms what we have already seen, it is not a merger of equals. The French tradition of social dialogue at LAFARGE has been swept aside and replaced by a management based on shareholding. Following the merger, 50000 workers lost their jobs, the figures on health and safety are catastrophic and the group has reneged on its commitment to sign a global agreement. We can only condemn this development. » The EFBWW cannot accept this lack of respect. This is not only a lack of respect for LafargeHolcim employee representatives, but also a lack of respect for the information and consultation procedures provided for by European legislation and the agreement of the LafargeHolcim European Works Council.
