Over the summer tensions did not ease between the global union federation IndustriALL Global Union and Yves Rocher. The dispute concerns union claims of anti-union practice by the cosmetics giant’s Turkey subsidiary Flormar. The French press has started reporting on the workers’ protestations (for the most part female) over dismissals that they argue have been prompted by their decision to join a trade union. In the space of only a few months a third of the newly unionized workers found themselves unemployed. A media campaign was launched in June and latterly an online petition was set up by IndustriALL together with the ‘Sum of Us’ organization calling for the reinstatement of the dismissed workers. The petition has received 124,256 signatures. On 20 September a delegation of the dismissed workers went to the ILO Geneva offices. ‘After the demonstration a meeting was held at the ILO to underline the breaching of Convention 87 on freedom of association,’ the international union federation press statement indicated. On 21 September the workers’ delegation travelled to the Yves Rocher Paris headquarters where a demonstration took place along with the French IndustriALL Global Union affiliate member the CFE-CFDT. The delegation met with the head of Yves Rocher’s communications division.
