Volkswagen’s Chattanooga facility is no stranger to UAW (United Auto workers) labor disputes that have been taking place since 2015. The facility currently employs 3,800 (for the latest article on the Volkswagen disputes c.f. article No. 10973) and an extra 1,000 jobs have just recently been announced. The new hourly pay rate will apply as of 01 July 2019 and cover all new hires. Employees currently being paid the minimum salary will see their hourly rate rise by 50 cents. Volkswagen also announced the new salary policy would a dynamic progressive policy in so far as the minimum salary rate would rise another 50 cents after employees reach 6 months career length, and rise progressively until the rate reaches $19.70 per hour after two years of career length. As a reminder, the Federal minimum hourly rate is currently $7.25 unchanged since 2009 and the State of Tennessee applies this rate.
