On 30 January 2019, and following an initial 2-hour warning strike plus a further six days of full strike action, the social partners at Audi Hungary struck an agreement that will operate from 01 January 2019 until 31 March 2020. The agreement raises base salary by 18% and includes a monthly salary floor of HUF 75,000 (€235). In addition, workers can receive benefits-in-kind of up to HUF 400,000 (€1,250) per year in both 2019 and 2020. The agreement also guarantees workers will have at least one weekend free per month starting 01 May 2019. Most of the union’s demands were met and Audi management was indeed under pressure to respond since once the Hungary facility stopped producing engines then production in the Audi and Volkswagen facilities in Germany and Slovakia were also suspended.
