Management at Mercedes-Benz Manufacturing Hungary Kft. Together with the representing trade unions have concluded a two-year agreement on wages and allowances. As of January 2019, basic salaries will rise by 35% by 2020 (22% in 2019 and 13% in 2020) in individual categories of employees, a 13th monthly wage will be paid after one year of employment and the cafeteria allowance will be either HUF 340.000 (EUR 1,060) in meal vouchers or HUF 280.000 (EUR 900) in cash. Erzsébet Buzásné Putz, Chairman of the Free Trade Union of Engineers and Technicians (MTSzSz), said that regional labour issues were taken into account when concluding the agreement and believed that the agreement really helps to maintain stability and retain the labour force. Orsolya Ludvig, communications and PR director of the Mercedes factory, said the wage agreement was an important milestone for the company. She said the company wanted to offer a predictable future for the workers, and a major increase in the lowest wage category included in the agreement was an essential element to this end. She added that the wage structure was transformed and a specific structure has been created to meet the needs of local workers. She noted that at the moment the factory was not affected by labour shortages, but due to the construction of a second factory and other developments, it was the right time to deal with the issue so that years later it would not be a problem.
