The employees of the Italian steel producer Ilva have voted by a large majority to accept the agreement signed, on 6 September, between the ArcelorMittal group, which is going to take over the Ilva group, and the trade unions. This agreement will govern the terms of the company’s takeover and of safeguarding the jobs of its workforce. In total, 10,700 jobs are being protected (out of a total of 13,500 employees) and around 2,000 employees will be offered voluntary redundancy payments. The employees transferring to the new company will not be subject to the recent reforms governing dismissal of workers, which impose a ceiling on the damages payable in the event of unjustified dismissal
