An analyst at the private bank City, Mark May, expects online commerce giant, Amazon US, to deploy robots that will replace humans during business peaks. Mr. May expects Amazon will be hiring 20,000 fewer US workers to handle this year’s Christmas business surge and believes this is a precursor for a move towards much greater automation. Amazon argues that the lower seasonal hiring volume is because the company has recently hired a great deal more on permanent and full time employment contracts. Across 26 logistics centers teams are already working with more than 100,000 robots, the company explained, as it looks forward to developing automation technology as well as hiring more staff.
