In denouncing its failure over information/consultation concerning the closure of the Avilès and La Corogne sites in the north of Spain, the US aluminum producer’s EWC had set management a 29 October deadline before which it was to suspend its employment termination plan until the works council had produced its opinion. The deadline passed without any move from management and the EWC announced it was lodging a request with the Dutch courts (the EWC is based in the Netherlands) for failure to enter into information/consultation procedures and in order to secure the employment plan’s suspension. The multinational company is currently being pressured by both the trade unions and the Spanish public authorities.
